Description
John Sleep volunteered in 1940 and joined the Royal Berkshire Regiment and then the Parachute Regiment.
He was shipped out to Algeria, on to Libya and then into Tunisia. He took part in the Battle of Taranto in November 1940 against the Italian naval base.
John joined Operation Overlord on D-Day+4 on a supply ship. He fought through Normandy and then up into Belgium. John was injured in the Battle of Arnhem in September 1944, and was medically discharged.
John married, had two girls and started a business making gymnastic equipment.
