Tony Vince was born in December 1939 and lived with Mum and Dad, his brother and sister in Wandsworth, west London during World War II.
Tony remembers the Anderson shelter arriving at the house and being installed in the back garden. A huge hole was dug and the corrugated sheets were put in place. He also remembers the Morrison shelters, which were metal cages, and installed under the living room table.
After an air raid Tony would go up to Wandsworth Common with his family and friends, looking for bits of bomb casings, commonly know as shrapnel. He used the shrapnel as currency, swopping them for comics and sweets.
Life rolled on and the war a memory, Tony started work as an office boy in Wandsworth at the age of sixteen. Tony married Margaret who he met for the first time at the age of ten and he eventually retired at the age of sixty-seven.
